Who is Alistair
I was born and bred in Bristol, England, and now live with my wife and young family in Portishead. An avid sports fan and follower of Bristol City, I have played football all my life up to semi professional level and now represent Portishead Town Vets. It was the result of a leg break at university and the subsequent recovery that I started a career in health and fitness by using exercise as a means of rehabilitation. Building on this area with long-term health conditions, I found a passion for exercise with Parkinson’s, and it was following my own mum and uncle’s Parkinson’s diagnosis that I was further driven to make this my life work.
I am an award-winning Exercise Specialist, with over 20 years’ experience delivering physical activity programmes for people living with long-term health conditions, specialising in Parkinson’s and cancer rehabilitation. I held the role of Activity & Wellbeing Manager for Everyone Active and led the development of inclusive, community-based interventions that have transformed lives across Bristol and beyond.
As a licensed PD Warrior instructor, I have worked with more than 250 people living with Parkinson’s to help manage their symptoms, maintain independence and improve their quality of life. I was chosen to work with Parkinson’s UK to feature in their online home exercise video content which has had more than 20,000 views.
During the Covid pandemic, I led Everyone Active’s online seated exercise content as a Master Trainer, delivering live exercise sessions to those across the UK who were unable to access in-person classes.
In 2025 I had the pleasure of being a featured guest on the Everyone Active podcast to speak about my work with people living with Parkinson’s, and later in the year I joint led a team of experts to design and develop Everyone Active’s medicated weight loss workouts.
In recent years I have worked with Age UK to set up evidence based falls prevention programmes across Bristol to help older adults to build and maintain strength, balance and confidence.
I have had the honour of being recognised nationally and locally for my impact — as a finalist in the 2021 UKActive Physical Activity Hero Award, and for my award-winning delivery of the Bristol Exercise Referral Scheme and the Energise cancer rehab programme. In 2018, I was inducted into Bristol Active City’s inaugural Hall of Fame, honouring my long-standing contribution to physical activity and health promotion.
Driven by compassion and clinical expertise, I continue to be a leading advocate for the role of physical activity in preventative healthcare and recovery.
